Michelle Lawler is a seasoned cinematographer based in Los Angeles, boasting a wealth of experience in both film and television. Her impressive portfolio includes work on several television shows, such as HBO's Emmy-winning series "Insecure" (2020) and Lena Waithe's "Twenties" (2020).
Recently, Lawler served as the director of photography for eight episodes of "The Shrink Next Door" on Apple TV, an adaptation of the popular podcast. This project was helmed by director Michael Showalter and featured an ensemble cast including Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Kathryn Hahn.
Michelle Lawler also lent her expertise to the first four episodes of "The Dropout" (2022),a series based on the Elizabeth Holmes story, which earned an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. Once again, Michael Showalter directed this project, with Amanda Seyfried starring in a role that earned her an Emmy for Best Actress.
In 2023, Michelle shot "Dicks: The Musical," produced by A24 and directed by Larry Charles, featuring Nathan Lane and Meagan Mullally. Additionally, she lensed four episodes of "Based on a True Story" (2023) for Peacock, starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina.
Michelle Lawler's talent has been recognized by Variety, who named her one of the "10 Cinematographers to Watch" in 2020. She holds an MFA in Cinematography from The American Film Institute (AFI) and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Cinema from San Francisco State University.
Outside of her work as a cinematographer, Michelle Lawler is a passionate gardener, cultivating a prominent cactus garden in her Los Angeles yard. She is also a dog lover, and her cute and friendly dog, Judy, is a constant companion. Michelle is represented by UTA.
