Biography

Michele De Angelis has a lifelong passion for moving images, starting to collect 8mm and Super 8mm films at the age of seven. By 17, he was collecting 35 mm theatrical prints of his favorite films and attending a screenwriting class taught by Italian cinema masters.

After graduating from Law School, De Angelis was given the opportunity to work as an assistant director on the Italian slasher epic Massacre at the age of 22. This experience led to years of working in the film industry as a first assistant director, production manager, executive producer, and screenwriter for various directors and producers.

De Angelis has an extensive knowledge of films and filmmaking, which has made him a sought-after collaborator for international film festivals like Sitges, Fantafestival, Malaga, Toronto, and Edinburgh. He has also written articles for several film publications and has run an art house theater for two years.

In 1999, De Angelis launched the independent video label Pulp Video, which gained a reputation for innovation and quality with its releases of long-forgotten rarities and film classics. He also worked as a consultant and executive producer, producing DVD featurettes and documentaries for American companies.

In the following years, De Angelis' work in documentary filmmaking led to international recognition with the release of his documentary In The Jungle: The Making Of Cannibal Holocaust, which reconstructed the making of the cult classic film. He also produced The Gofathers Of Mondo, featuring maverick filmmakers Jacopetti and Prosperi speaking about the creation of the Mondo genre.

In 2001, De Angelis left Pulp Video and joined Alan Young Pictures as associate partner, where he was responsible for creating a video and DVD label dedicated to high-quality releases of Italian and American classics. He also worked as a legal consultant for Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead and as a script reader for various Italian companies.

In 2004, De Angelis secured private investment to found Noshame Films, an ambitious international company that released a series of classics and genre gems on highly praised collectors' editions DVDs. The company earned a reputation for quality and attention to detail and was voted one of the best North American distributors by the New York Times and Premiere magazine.

On the production front, Noshame Films co-financed several films, including Tamara, Plague, and Dark Places, and handled distribution for these titles in Italy. The company also distributed several acclaimed films, including Stander, November, and Asylum.

In 2005, Noshame Films created the DVD label Orizzonti, which released edgy and multi-award-winning movies from around the world. At the end of 2008, De Angelis left Noshame Films, which ceased operations soon after. He then took the first steps towards fully fledged movie production, securing the rights to Graham Masterton's best-selling novel Ritual, to be adapted for the screen and directed by Mariano Baino.

In 2011, De Angelis set up a new company, Kinoglazorama International, which will produce and distribute movies and shorts, and create a digital platform that will include a Web Television.
