Michael Steele, a talented singer, songwriter, and bassist, was born on June 2, 1955, in Pasadena, California, and grew up in the suburban surroundings of Newport Beach.
Prior to joining The Bangles in 1983, Steele had a brief stint with the all-girl rock group The Runaways, serving as both the lead singer and bass player, although she was unfortunately kicked out for being too old.
Before joining The Bangles, Steele had been a part of almost fourteen different bands, with Annette Zilinskas being the original bassist she replaced.
After The Bangles disbanded in 1989, Steele wrote songs and recorded demos for a potential solo album that unfortunately never came to fruition.
In 1993, Steele took the helm as the frontwoman for the band "Crash Wisdom," which ultimately dissolved in late 1994.
Following her departure from Los Angeles, Steele relocated to Northern California to focus on her passion for painting.
In 1996, Steele joined the band Eyesore, serving as the bassist for a brief four-month tenure.
As a session musician, Steele has collaborated with notable artists such as Jan Krist, Ty Tabor, and Eliza.
Steele also made a guest appearance with fellow Bangles bandmate Victoria Peterson's group, the Continental Drifters, filling in for primary bassist Mark Walton.
On November 21, 1998, Steele made a public appearance, singing lead vocals on two songs at a Sandy Denny tribute show at St. Ann's Church in New York City.
Steele subsequently performed on stage with the Continental Drifters at Acme Underground in New York City on November 23, 1998.
In 1999, Steele became the last member of The Bangles to rejoin the group, and in 2005, she left the band.
