Biography

Michael Merino is a renowned director, producer, and writer, having received numerous international awards and accolades throughout his career. He began his journey in the film industry as a production assistant, working in various departments including art, camera, electric, grip, hair and makeup, wardrobe, sound, props, catering, and construction.

Growing up in Washington, D.C. to a family of diverse heritage, Michael speaks three languages and has a deep appreciation for the world beyond the Americas. He spent nearly six years traveling the globe, living and working abroad, and held various jobs, including short order cook, ladies shoe salesman, carpenter, bartender, pizza maker, door-to-door salesman, house painter, and home contractor.

Before focusing on directing, producing, and writing, Michael worked as an editor in post-production. He also holds a degree from a university and is a former practitioner of American Kenpo, a former member of the NYSBA, and a stringer for various news outlets.

Michael's journey in the film industry was temporarily halted due to a diving accident, which led him to pursue his passion for the arts. He attended Rockport's International Film School and The Corcoran School of Art, and has since directed several award-winning films, including The Deal, The Milkman, 502, Our Last Supper, and Times Up.

Michael has also won accolades for his regional commercial and training video work, and has produced, written, and directed the web series DRAKUL. His most recent projects include the action/thriller ACCELERATION, starring Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Chuck Liddell, and Sean Patrick Flanery, and the film CLUTCH, which won Best Independent Film at the 2025 IFS/LA Film Festival.

When not working on his latest projects, Michael divides his time between Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and is known for his love of dogs and his cheeky pirate persona.
