Michael Douglas is a legendary actor with 50 years of film, television, and producing experience. He is known for his era-defining roles and enduring cultural impact. In addition to his career accomplishments, Douglas has remained a steadfast public servant, activist, and philanthropist dedicated to peace and human welfare, democracy, gun control advocacy, support of the arts, and support of nuclear disarmament.

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to actors Diana Douglas and Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas's parents divorced when he was six, and he went to live with his mother and her new husband. He attended Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and later attended the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Douglas began his acting career in the 1960s, making his film debut in his father's film Cast a Giant Shadow (1966). He gained recognition for his roles in films such as Hail, Hero! (1969),The Streets of San Francisco (1972),and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975),for which he received an Academy Award nomination.

In the 1980s, Douglas became a successful producer, forming his own production company, Big Stick Productions, Ltd. He produced films such as The China Syndrome (1979) and Romancing the Stone (1984),and co-starred in films such as Fatal Attraction (1987) and Wall Street (1987),for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Douglas continued to act and produce, starring in films such as The American President (1995),Traffic (2000),and Wonder Boys (2000),and producing films such as The Rainmaker (1997) and Face/Off (1997).

Douglas has been married to Catherine Zeta-Jones since 2000 and has two children with her. He has also been recognized for his philanthropic work, including being appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 1998 and receiving the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
