Michael Deffert's journey to stardom began at the tender age of eleven, when he stumbled upon a film set in his hometown of Hamburg while riding his bicycle. The charismatic young boy managed to win over the hearts of the female makeup artists, who subsequently introduced him to the director.
This chance encounter led to an invitation to a casting for Sesame Street, and Deffert's perseverance paid off as he landed the part. His early success on stage soon followed, with a role in the German adaptation of "On Golden Pond" at the landmark Hamburger Kammerspiele theatre, sharing the stage with some of Germany's most renowned theatre legends.
Deffert's breakthrough came when he was cast as one of the leads in the German adaptation of "21 Jump Street", playing the role of hot-blooded undercover cop "Hannes Lohberg". This role captivated millions of viewers every week at prime time.
In addition to his acting career, Deffert has also ventured into producing, teaming up with his long-time friend Billy Zabka to create the poetic tale "MOST", which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short in 2003. The film premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and went on to win numerous other high-end festivals, including the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, which qualified it for the Academy Awards.
As a trained stage actor, Deffert has performed in a range of classical roles, including Mercutio in Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet". He is also a highly sought-after voice-over artist and dubbing director, having provided the German voice for numerous films, including those starring Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Mark Ruffalo, Giovanni Ribisi, and Walton Goggins.
Deffert has also lent his voice to several animated characters, such as Aladdin and Skipper from "Penguins of Madagascar". He has been the exclusive voice of Shemar Moore in over 250 episodes of the TV series "Criminal Minds".
In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Deffert is passionate about wildlife conservation. He recently wrote and directed a documentary about Nick Brandt's Big Life Foundation in Kenya for the French-German cultural channel ARTE in 2015. Deffert is also an ambassador for the German Greentec Awards, a prestigious annual gala event held in Germany.
