Biography

Melissa Sullivan's life story is a fascinating tale of global adventure and artistic expression. Born and raised on Air Force bases around the world, her childhood was marked by a sense of wanderlust and cultural exposure. From Wichita Falls, Texas to Naha, Okinawa, her formative years were spent traveling and adapting to new environments.

As a result of her parents' military service, Melissa developed a strong sense of adaptability and resilience, traits that would serve her well in her future endeavors. Her academic pursuits led her to the California Institute of the Arts, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatrical studies.

Melissa's love affair with music began at an early age, with her first instrument being the clarinet. She was just eight years old when she started playing, and her musical talents were soon complemented by her vocal skills. Growing up, she sang in numerous choirs and developed a deep appreciation for the art form.

Today, Melissa is a multifaceted artist, with two bands to her name. Facel Vega, an electronica jazz/pop duo with Del Johns, is one of her creative outlets, while the Melissa Sullivan Jazz Trio is another platform for her musical expression.

As a stage actress, Melissa has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned theater companies and directors. Her credits include The Girl in the recently discovered Tennessee Williams play, Mr. Paradise, for which she won an L.A. Weekly Best Ensemble Award. Other notable roles include Honey in Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Mary Jane in James Joyce's The Dead, Veronica in Susan Joseph's The Interview, Miss Julie in Strindberg's Miss Julie, Karin in Fassbinder's The Bitter Tears of Petra Van Kant, and Sophie in Bertolt Brecht's BAAL.

Melissa's dedication to her craft has earned her numerous accolades, including a best ensemble Dramalogue Award for her portrayal of Marta in Waiting for the Parade. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated her versatility, range, and passion for the performing arts.
