Biography

Max Lief, a multifaceted talent, began his journey at New York University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree.

As a young adult, he pursued a career in journalism, becoming a reporter, columnist, and drama editor for the New York Daily News at the tender age of 22.

His writing skills soon extended beyond the realm of journalism, as he penned short stories and verse for prominent publications such as the Saturday Evening Post and the New Yorker.

Lief's literary endeavors continued with the authorship of several novels, including "Hangover" and "Bachelor's Guide to the Opposite Sex", as well as the co-authorship of "The Missouri Traveler Cookbook" and the plays "Champagne for Everybody" and "Two for Tonight".

His impressive repertoire of work also includes Broadway stage scores, such as "Luckee Girl", "Greenwich Village Follies of 1928", and "Pleasure Bound", as well as songwriting credits for "Earl Carroll's Vanities of 1931", "Third Little Show", "Shoot the Works", and "Grand Street Follies".

In 1931, Lief joined the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and collaborated with his brother Nathaniel Lief on lyrics and with notable composers Michael Cleary, Sholom Secunda, Maurie Rubens, Manning Sherwin, David Snell, Joseph Meyer, Arthur Schwartz, Louis Alter, Sammy Fain, and Muriel Pollock.

Throughout his illustrious career, Lief composed numerous popular songs, including "I'm Back in Circulation Again", "It's in the Stars", "Dream of Me", "I'll Always Remember", "I'll Putcha Pitcha in the Papers", "Poor Little Doorstep Baby", "My Impression of You", "His Servant", "How Long Will It Last", and "Under the Stars".
