Matthew Dixon, a talented writer and director, has made a significant impact in the film and television industry. His short film, Modern Houses, starring Lili Taylor, has been a standout, playing at over 30 festivals worldwide and receiving numerous nominations and awards.
Dixon's first screenplay, Starry Night, caught the attention of the Sundance Institute, earning him a spot in their Writers Lab and Filmmakers Lab. The script was one of only two sponsored by Sundance for the Independent Film Project's "No Borders" conference, and it attracted notable talent, including Billy Crudup, Adrien Brody, Gena Rowlands, Mia Farrow, and Brian Cox.
In television, Dixon's one-hour pilot script, The Glass Hotel, was optioned by HBO for Mike Myers, with Dixon serving as a co-producer. His screenplay, Fish Story, won the 2020 Best Screenplay Award at the Mammoth Lake Film Festival and has been a finalist, semi-finalist, and quarter-finalist for numerous other competitions.
Dixon's screenplay, Perfect Memory, was optioned as a co-production by Darren Aronofsky's Chromista Films and the French company, SeBe Films. He also directed the documentary One Man Under God, which tells the story of Michael Newdow, who represented himself before the Supreme Court to have the words "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.
As an actor, Dixon has had a diverse range of roles, including leads in two Manhattan Class Company plays and Lyle Kessler's Orphans. He has also appeared in the film adaptation of Richard Russo's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Empire Falls and has had guest starring and supporting parts on numerous Law & Orders, Ed, and soap operas.
A lifetime member of the Actors Studio, Dixon has a strong foundation in the arts, having been an original member of two New York theater companies. His plays have been produced Off-Off Broadway, where he has also directed.
