Matt North's life is a fascinating tale of artistic expression and multifaceted pursuits. Born and raised in Champaign, Illinois, he later made his way to Nashville, Tennessee, where he currently resides as a songwriter and session musician.
North's impressive acting credits include starring opposite James Woods in the Golden Globe-winning TV movie "Dirty Pictures" (2001),directed by the renowned Frank Pierson. He also had a recurring role as William Morris Agent, Jay Schneider, on the hit HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
As an award-winning screenwriter, North's original screenplay "Best Western" received widespread recognition. His passion for music led him to live in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood from 1994 to 1997, where he moonlighted as a drummer in various garage bands, worked in theater and film, and even produced the anti-gun violence compilation CD "You Are What You Shoot" for Mother Jones Magazine.
The CD featured an impressive lineup of artists, including Freakwater, The Mekons, and the late Jay Bennett of Wilco. As a drummer, North was awarded a full scholarship to the University of North Texas School of Music, where he honed his craft. He later toured Russia with the 1991 University of Illinois Jazz Band and spent several years in Los Angeles before relocating to Nashville with his wife, actress Laurel Green.
Throughout his career, North has had the privilege of performing and recording with a diverse range of talented artists, including Maria McKee, Peter Case, Andy Prieboy, Jesse DeNatale, Brutal Jooks, Gina Villalobos, Viktor Krauss, Rob Kendt, and Mink Stole, a legendary figure from the world of John Waters.
