Matthew "Matty" Nable is a former Rugby League footballer who has successfully transitioned to a career in acting. During the 1990s, he played in the Winfield Cup Premiership for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
In 2007, Nable wrote and starred in the rugby league-centered drama, The Final Winter. He has also collaborated frequently with fellow actor and former Newcastle Five-Eighth, Matthew Johns, in various television projects.
Growing up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Nable spent a significant portion of his childhood in Portsea, Victoria, where his father, a soldier, was stationed for two years. His father's profession as a trainer for the Australian national rugby league team had a profound impact on Nable's life, as did his brother, Adam Nable, who would go on to become a professional rugby league player.
Rising through the junior ranks at the Manly-Warringah club, Nable made half-a-dozen appearances for the first-grade team before switching to the South Sydney Rabbitohs for a stint. He later played for Carlisle in England and the London Broncos, further honing his skills as a rugby league player.
