Matt Harlock is a renowned director whose films have garnered widespread recognition and acclaim. His latest short film, Deep Clean, starring Paul Kaye and created in collaboration with Krent Able, is set to be showcased at various prestigious festivals, including Frightfest, London Short Film Festival, Aesthetica, SF Indie Fest, and Celluloid Screams. He is currently developing genre features for the international market.
Harlock's inaugural feature film, American: The Bill Hicks Story, enjoyed a successful run at over 40 international festivals, emerging as the 2nd most successful documentary released in UK cinemas in 2010 and ranking 6th on the iTunes Docs Bestsellers chart. The film received a Grierson nomination and won several Best Documentary awards, including those at the Dallas, Little Rock, Downtown LA, and Biografilm Bologna festivals.
His short films have been widely exhibited at festivals and on television. In 2017, his festival hit Ink, Cocks & Rock'n'Roll, a documentary about the controversial comic artist Krent Able, garnered five Best Film/Director nominations and premiered on VICE. The film has since been screened at the London SFF, Dublin International, LOCO, and Sochi festivals, where it won the Best Film award. Additionally, it was nominated for Best Director at the Fastnet, On Vous Ment, and Raindance festivals.
Matt's drama short films have been featured on VICE, Channel 4, Film4, HBO, and Sky, earning awards from the Manhattan SFF, TCM & Film London, and the National 48 Hour Film Challenge. His commissioned film, Lollipop, was supported by the British Council, while Toll was acquired by Film4 & HBO and screened at over 30 festivals. The Clouds won the National 48 Hour Film Challenge.
Harlock was a Berlin Talent in 2014 and is the founder of No Direction Home, a Soho-based director's community now based at The Hospital Club.
