However, Mushi Pro's eventual closure in 1973 presented Hata with a new set of challenges. He continued to work in the animation industry, taking on various projects at Tokyo Movie Shinsha, where he honed his skills by drawing storyboards and directing episodes for several TV series.
In the mid-1970s, Hata made the transition to Sanrio, a company that was rapidly expanding its presence in the anime market. He remained at Sanrio for over a decade, during which time he directed several of the company's lavish full-animation films. The breakup of Sanrio's animation department, Sanrio Films, in 1985 marked a significant turning point in Hata's career. He went on to work freelance, directing and writing storyboards for TV series and movies at various studios.
