On stage, she shone as the star of Noël Coward's "Cavalcade" and in John Galsworthy's "The Skin Game", a role she later reprised for the screen.

She brought to life a range of memorable characters, from the enigmatic Baroness in "The Lady Vanishes" (1938) to the refined Lady Hingston in "Portrait of Clare" (1950).
