Marloes "Rumina" Coenen is a Dutch-born mixed martial artist, one of the most veteran in the sport, with a professional fighting career spanning over two decades. Born in 1981, Coenen's introduction to combat sports began at the age of 12, driven by a desire to learn self-defense. She started with Karate, but soon moved on to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Coenen's early career saw her competing in Japan, where she won her first professional fight in just 20 seconds. She went on to compete in various organizations, including ReMix, Shooto, and SmackGIRL, earning a reputation as a formidable opponent.
In 2002, Coenen won the ReMix World Cup tournament, submitting three opponents en route to the title. She then took a two-year hiatus from competition due to glandular fever, during which she continued to train.
Coenen returned to fighting in 2004, winning several fights in Japan and the Netherlands. She eventually signed with Strikeforce in 2006, making her debut at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg in 2009.
Coenen's Strikeforce career saw her compete in several high-profile fights, including a title bout against Cris Cyborg, which she lost via TKO. She then challenged Sarah Kaufman for the Strikeforce Women's Welterweight title, but was defeated via submission.
Coenen continued to compete in Strikeforce, eventually earning a title shot against Miesha Tate, who withdrew from the fight due to injury. Coenen then faced Liz Carmouche, whom she defeated via triangle choke submission to retain the championship.
