Mark McMorris is a world-renowned snowboarding champion, boasting an impressive array of accolades and achievements throughout his illustrious career. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mark and his brother Craig spent their family holidays skiing and snowboarding on the slopes, laying the foundation for their future competitive endeavors.
At the tender age of 11, Mark joined the Saskatchewan Snowboard Team, quickly making a name for himself in the world of rail jams and slopestyle competitions across Canada. By 2009, Mark was competing in his first FIS World Cup snowboard contest and Burton U.S. Open at the age of 15, securing podium spots at nearly every event he entered.
Mark's breakthrough moment came when he landed the first-ever backside triple cork 1440 at Snowmass park in Colorado, earning him an invitation to join Brain Farm Cinema's The Art of Flight park shoot. He went on to appear in numerous films, including Standing Sideways and 13, showcasing his impressive skills on the big screen.
Mark's success on the competitive stage was equally impressive, with a string of victories at X Games, US Open, and TTR World Snowboard Tour events. He also represented Canada at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal in Slopestyle despite competing with a broken rib.
Tragedy struck in 2017 when Mark suffered a serious injury while filming in the backcountry, requiring an emergency helicopter evacuation. However, Mark's resilience and determination allowed him to bounce back from the setback, earning a series of impressive results throughout the 2018 season.
Mark continued to dominate the snowboarding world, claiming a third-place finish in Snowboard Slopestyle at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and first place at the Burton US Open in Aspen, Colorado. He started 2020 with silver in Big Air at the Winter X Games in Aspen, bringing him level with Shaun White's record of 18 X Games medals. Mark went on to surpass that total, claiming Big Air gold and Slopestyle silver at X Games Norway, as well as gold in Big Air at the 2021 FIS Snowboarding World Championships in Aspen.
Mark is not only an accomplished snowboarder but also a philanthropist, co-founding the McMorris Foundation with his brother in 2012 to support Canadian children pursuing their passion in sports. He has also starred in his own video game, Mark McMorris Infinite Air.
