Mark co-founded Wildstar Films in 2018, bringing with him 30 years of expertise in directing and producing award-winning wildlife films. As a member of the senior creative team, he is currently working on several series at Wildstar and is also directing a feature-length film for Disneynature.
Mark's journey in wildlife filmmaking began after studying zoology at the University of Oxford. He started his career by fronting a film about gorillas in the Congo, which marked the beginning of his long-standing passion for capturing the wonders of the natural world on camera.
After several years with the BBC, Mark joined independent production company Green Umbrella, where he produced and directed numerous award-winning films for BBC strands The Natural World and Wildlife on One. Some of his notable works include The Temple Troop, Gelada Baboons - The Battles of Braveheart, Orangutans - The High Society, and Capuchins - The Monkey Puzzle.
In 2000, Mark returned to the BBC to produce and direct on the BAFTA-nominated Life of Mammals, a series that saw him travel the world alongside Sir David Attenborough. He followed this with two episodes of the hit TV series Planet Earth, winning a Primetime EMMY for the opening show Pole to Pole.
Mark's subsequent work as Producer/Director on Frozen Planet earned him an EMMY nomination for writing. For the last decade, he has been directing and co-directing feature-length wildlife films for Disneynature, including Chimpanzee, Monkey Kingdom, Elephant, and Earth, the latter of which remains one of the most successful wildlife theatrical releases of all time.
