Mark Elijah Rosenberg is a multifaceted creative professional with a background in film direction, writing, editing, and production. He is the founder and former artistic director of Rooftop Films, a non-profit organization based in Brooklyn, New York.
As a filmmaker, Rosenberg has made a name for himself with his feature film directorial debut, Approaching the Unknown. This thought-provoking sci-fi film tells the story of a man's one-way journey into space and explores the limits of human experience. The film was selected for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab and received several awards, including the NHK Screenwriting Award and the Indian Paintbrush Award.
Rosenberg's work often focuses on low-budget, personal cinema, and he has directed and edited numerous short films. He was also a producer-editor on the Emmy Award-winning WNYE television show IMNY, where he taught video production to New York City public school students.
In addition to his work in film, Rosenberg has also developed a number of projects outside of the medium. He is currently working on a screenplay about a man with a limited but amazing superpower, a comic book series about a man who reads people's journals, and other magical realist films.
Rosenberg was born and raised in New York City and received his BA from Vassar College. He began making and showing movies on his roof in 1997 as the founder and artistic director of Rooftop Films, a non-profit organization committed to building community through the medium of film.
Under his leadership, Rooftop Films has become one of the most innovative film companies in the country, creating unique events for hundreds of films each year and attracting over 40,000 attendees annually. Rosenberg has also published articles on filmmaking and programming and has been a guest lecturer at several institutions.
Rosenberg has served on grants panels for several organizations, including Cinereach, NYSCA, LMCC, and Renew Media. He is also on the Advisory Council for Fractured Atlas and has programmed film screenings across the world.
