Biography

Cécile Embleton is a renowned self-shooting documentary director, currently residing in the United Kingdom.

Her inaugural feature-length documentary, Mother Vera, has garnered widespread recognition and accolades, including the prestigious Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the London Film Festival in 2024, as well as first prize at the Festival Dei Popoli in Italy, also in 2024.

Notably, the production has received support from Sundance and has claimed top honors at several esteemed festivals, including the Locarno First Look 2023 and the First Look Prize at the HotDocs Forum in 2021.

Mother Vera had its competitive premiere at Vision du Réel in April 2024 and went on to screen in competition at various prominent festivals, including Camera Image, Camden International Film Festival, and Gijon International Film Festival, among others.

In addition to her feature-length work, Embleton's debut short, The Watchmaker, made its debut at Dok Leipzig in 2016, followed by screenings at SXSW and Hot Docs. This impressive short earned the Grand Jury prize at the Boston International Film Festival and was nominated for the UK Best Short at the Open City Documentary Festival.
