Margot was born in September 1949, marking the beginning of a life that would be deeply intertwined with the world of acting. Growing up in Middleton, Lancashire, she attended Bury Grammar school, where her love for the stage was first sparked during theatre trips to Stratford on Avon, the Manchester Exchange, and the Octagon Theatre, Bolton.
After leaving school, Margot pursued her passion for acting by reading English at the University of Leicester, a fitting choice given her future career. Upon graduation, she began working in repertory theatres across the country, honing her craft and laying the foundation for her future success.
In 1972, Margot met her future husband, director David Thacker, while performing at the Dukes Theatre, Lancaster. Two years later, they tied the knot and went on to raise four children together. The couple has since collaborated on numerous projects, with Margot earning an Olivier award nomination in 1994 for their work on the play "Breaking Glass" at the National Theatre.
David's appointment as artistic director at the Octagon Theatre in 2008 brought Margot and him together again, this time to work on acclaimed productions of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," "The Glass Menagerie," and "Long Day's Journey Into Night." In addition to her work with her husband, Margot is also a director of the Haringey Shed Company, a London-based theatre group that aims to inspire teenagers to pursue their passion for acting.
