Marcos Serafim is a multifaceted Brazilian artist and researcher who has made a significant impact in the world of photography, video, and imaging. As an Assistant Professor of Photography, Video, and Imaging at the University of Arizona in Tucson, he is dedicated to exploring the boundaries of his craft.
Throughout his career, Serafim has showcased his work in a variety of settings, including theatrical exhibitions, installations, and performances that incorporate video and sound. His artistic endeavors have been met with widespread acclaim, with exhibitions at esteemed institutions such as the 5th and 6th Ghetto Bienalle in Haiti, the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Brazil, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) in New York, the Queens Museum, and Flux Factory in New York.
Serafim's work has also been featured in numerous film festivals around the world, garnering a range of accolades and recognition. These include the Cine Esquema Novo Film Festival in Brazil, where he received the Audience Choice Second Best Short award; the Israel`s Horn Festival for Experimental Films, which awarded him the Jury’s Second Prize; the Northampton Film Festival in Massachusetts, which honored his work with the Jury’s Honorable Mention for Short Experimental; and the Faito Doc Festival in Italy, which presented him with the Young Jury’s Honorable Mention for Short Documentary.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Serafim has also received formal education in the field of film and video. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Video from Parana State University in Brazil, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Michigan State University.
