Manon Briand, a talented filmmaker, embarked on her creative journey by studying film at Concordia University in Montreal. This foundation laid the groundwork for her future success, as she began writing in 1987 and started directing just three years later.
Her initial foray into the world of film was marked by the creation of her first short film, Les Sauf-conduits, in 1991. This pioneering effort earned her numerous awards in Canada and abroad, including the prestigious Jury Prize for Graine de Cinéphage at the Créteil Film Festival in 1992.
Building on her early success, Briand continued to produce an impressive array of short films, including Croix de bois (1992) and Picoti Picota (1995). Her remarkable talent and dedication did not go unnoticed, as she was soon invited to participate in the collective film Cosmos in 1996. Her contribution to this project, entitled "Boost", further solidified her reputation as a skilled and innovative director.
Briand's first feature film, 2 Secondes, was released in 1998 and starred the talented Charlotte Laurier. This poignant exploration of the human experience, which examines the often futile struggle against time, earned her numerous accolades, including the Best Canadian Film and Best First Feature awards at the Montreal World Film Festival in Canada.
Her subsequent work, Marilyn Bell (1999),a biographical drama about a renowned Canadian athlete from the 1950s, was directed for television and showcased her versatility as a filmmaker.
After three years of meticulous preparation, Briand released her second feature film, La Turbulence des fluides, in 2002. This thought-provoking story follows a seismologist (Pascale Bussières) and her childhood friend (Julie Gayet) as they search for a logical explanation for the mysterious disappearance of the tide.
