Lynn Lowry was born in 1947 in Illinois, but her formative years were spent in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was raised. This early upbringing would later influence her perspective as an actress. Her professional acting career began at the tender age of 17, when she joined the prestigious Shawnee Summer Stock Theater. This marked the start of her journey in the world of theater and performance.
As she grew older, Lowry made the bold decision to relocate to New York City in the late 1960s, driven by a desire to pursue other acting opportunities and provide for her young son. Her early film roles were modest, starting with a small part in The Battle of Love's Return (1971),which was directed by and starred Lloyd Kaufman, the founder of the independent film company Troma.
Lowry's next role was another small, uncredited part in I Drink Your Blood (1971),a film that would set the stage for her future performances. Her breakthrough role came in Sugar Cookies (1973),where she played a dual role and was required to act in the nude for the first time, showcasing her sex appeal.
Her subsequent role in Score (1973),a X-rated, soft-core, semi-documentary film, further solidified her sex appeal and cemented her status as a provocative actress. Lowry's portrayal of "Kathy" in George A. Romero's The Crazies (1973),an action-horror film shot in rural Pennsylvania, showcased her range and versatility as an actress.
Lowry's subsequent roles included a recurring part in the TV series How to Survive a Marriage (1974) and a part in David Cronenberg's horror film Shivers (1975). She also appeared in Fighting Mad (1976) and a few other films before relocating to Los Angeles in the early 1980s.
In Los Angeles, Lowry experienced a slow start, but eventually found her footing in local theater and occasional movie roles. Most recently, she has been performing on stage as a singer, belting out old folk songs and show tunes with her own band. Lowry's most recent notable role was in the psychological body horror film Fang (2022),where she played the character Gina Cochran, one of her favorite roles to date.
