Luigi Sardiello is a multifaceted individual, born in Firenze in 1962. He is a writer, director, and film critic, with a profound passion for the film and audiovisual industry.
As the Chief Editor of Filmaker's magazine, an Italian quarterly publication, Sardiello is responsible for guiding the direction of the magazine, which is dedicated to exploring the world of cinema and audiovisual arts. In addition to his editorial duties, he also teaches "Creative Writing" at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of La Sapienza University of Rome, sharing his knowledge and expertise with students.
Sardiello has made significant contributions to the world of cinema, having written the story for La stanza accanto (The Room Next Door),directed by Fabrizio Laurenti, and the screenplay for La stanza delle farfalle (The Butterfly Room),directed by Gionata Zarantonello. He has also written screenplays for several documentary films, including Il tuo futuro ci riguarda (Venice Industrial Film Festival, 1990) and Il mago del cinema. L'incredibile storia di Mr. Roger Corman, regista low budget (Noir in Festival, 2006).
In 2009, Sardiello made his debut as a director with the feature film Piede didio (Foot of God),which he also wrote. The film received widespread acclaim, winning 12 prizes in national and international festivals, and was selected to represent Italy at the N.I.C.E. Film Festival in Moscow and St. Petersburg (2009) and at the Odessa International Film Festival (2010).
Sardiello is also a prolific author, having published several novels and collections of short stories. His novel La sfrontatezza del cuore (Ibiskos 1988) won the Giovanni Gronchi International Award, while his collection of short stories Pentalogia Semplice (Salerno 1992) won the Olevano Award. He is also co-author of the writing handbook Scrivere per comunicare (Bompiani, 2000),which features a foreword by the renowned author Umberto Eco.
In addition to his work in the world of cinema and literature, Sardiello has been involved in various educational projects, writing educational texts and essays on cinema. In 2000, he was a member of a University research group coordinated by Umberto Eco, working on the "highly-readable writing" style.
