Her mother, Åase Gyrithe Tarp (née Rising),was a talented make-up artist, and her step-father, Svend Erik Tarp, was a stage director and composer. However, Lotte's biological father was a German officer, Wolfgang Haug, who was stationed in German-occupied Denmark at the time of her birth.
Despite having no formal acting training, Lotte Tarp made her acting debut at the tender age of 16 in the renowned Danish feature film "Bocken i paradiset".
