Loleh Bellon, the daughter of photographer Denise Bellon and attorney general Jacques Bellon, was born with striking features, her blonde hair and blue eyes a rare combination in the Basque Country where she grew up.
As a child, she was surrounded by film performers, directors, writers, and photographers, and it's no surprise that she developed a passion for acting. She trained with renowned masters like Charles Dullin, Tania Balachova, and Julien Bertheau before making her debut in the theater and cinema in 1945.
At the age of 19, she married Spanish immigrant Jorge Semprun, who would later become famous, and appeared in several notable films, including Le gardian (1946),Le point du jour (1949),Skipper Next to God (1951),and Casque d'Or (1952) directed by Jacques Becker.
However, after Casque d'Or, her appearances on the big screen became less frequent. The reason was that the stage had become her true calling, and she went on to have a successful career in theater, playing iconic roles in productions like "Jules César" by William Shakespeare, "Judith" by Jean Giraudoux, and "Le Cid" by Pierre Corneille.
Throughout her career, she received numerous awards, including the Prix des Jeunes Comédiens, Grand Prix du Théâtre de l'Académie, and Prix du Théâtre de SACD. She also wrote four plays and a script for her sister, and appeared in over a dozen television roles.
In the 1970s, she made a few film appearances, including Somewhere, Someone (1972) and Jamais plus toujours (1975),both directed by her sister Yannick Bellon. Despite her success in film, her true passion remained the stage, where she shone brightly as a talented and accomplished actress.
