Lisa Smit's career began to take off with her starring role in the children's horror film Gruesome School Trip (2005),which became a national box office hit and won awards in both the United States and Great Britain.
She then went on to star in the acclaimed youth series Willemspark (2007) and the psychological thriller TBS (2008),which won the prestigious Golden Film Award and Best Feature at the Philadelphia International Film Festival under its international title Nothing To Lose (2008).
After taking a break to focus on her studies, Lisa returned to the big screen in 2010 with the leading female role in the arthouse movie Shocking Blue (2010) and a guest-starring role in the popular police series Flikken Maastricht (2007),which was viewed by an audience of nearly two million people.
In 2010, Lisa also filmed a supporting role in Lena (2011),the new movie by acclaimed Flemish director Christophe van Rompaey, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2011, and her starring role in the Dutch tv-movie Mijn Marko (2011),which premiered at the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht.
Lisa's first starring role in an international production was as Laura Werner in Quellen Des Lebens by German writer-director Oskar Roehler, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2013 and was released nationwide on February 14.
Quellen Des Lebens was nominated for Best Film at the German Film Awards 2013, and Lisa also starred in the Dutch series Max & Billy's Drill Machine Girl, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award.
Lisa's subsequent roles included the youth series Zusjes, the historical epic Kenau, which premiered at the Stony Brook Festival in New York and won the Audience Award for Best Feature, and the short films The Last Day of Summer and Forever After, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, respectively.
In 2015, Lisa starred in the third season of Doctor Deen, and she also played a leading role in the supernatural drama series Project Orpheus, which aired on Dutch television in the spring of 2016. She then starred in the movie The Long Reach of Shadow, which premiered at the Dutch Film Festival in September 2016.
After a brief hiatus to focus on her studies, Lisa returned to filming in early 2017, starring in the romantic comedy All The Single Ladies!, written and directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Yfke van Berckelaer.
