Biography

Lisa Gerrard's unique vision and vocal style have solidified her position as one of the world's most acclaimed film composers, earning her a Golden Globe for her work on the score for 'Gladiator' alongside Hans Zimmer.

Her impressive filmography also includes 'Ali', 'The Insider', 'Whale Rider', which received an Academy Award nomination and garnered Lisa an international award for the score, and many more.

Lisa's musical journey began in the early 1980s when she formed the duo 'Dead Can Dance' with Brendan Perry. The band reunited in 2012 for a sell-out world tour, and their nine albums released between 1984 and 1995 showcased a timeless mix of world-music influences, medieval chants, folk ballads, baroque stylings, Celtic flavours, electronics, samples, and more.

Lisa's natural progression to composing for films led her to score the highly acclaimed feature 'Balibo', for which she won the 2009 Screen Music Award for Best Feature Film Score, an Aria Award, and three further nominations. She also scored 'Oranges and Sunshine', 'Tears of Gaza', 'Burning Man', and many more.

In 2013, Lisa performed the principal vocal role in Zbigniew Preisner's poignant concert piece 'Diaries of Hope', inspired by diaries and poems of Polish children who were victims of the Holocaust. This was premiered in Wroclaw, Poland, and at the Barbican in London.

Lisa's vocal performances continue to be heard across the world, with a number planned for 2018, including a performance of 'Gladiator Live' at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

In 2016, Lisa collaborated with James Orr on the score for Paul Currie's thriller '2:22', and with Marcello De Francisci on the score for the feature 'Jane Got a Gun', directed by Gavin O'Connor and starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor.

Most recently, Lisa completed the score with James Orr to 'West of Sunshine', which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. She also collaborated with The Mystery of the Bulgaria Voices on their upcoming album, due for release by Prophecy Records on May 25th, 2018, and plans to perform with the choir throughout Europe during 2018.
