Linda Gary, a renowned American voice actress, was born in 1944 in Los Angeles, California. She began her career in the 1980s, voicing four major female characters in the iconic animated series "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" (1983-1985),including the benevolent Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, the heroic Teela, Queen Marlena, and the ambitious villainess Evil-Lyn.
In the spin-off series "She-Ra: Princess of Power" (1985-1986),Gary voiced a diverse range of characters, including the evil sorceress Shadow Weaver, the animal-themed super-villainess Scorpia, the rebel leader Glimmer, the benevolent witch Madame Razz, and the inventor Entrapta, sidekick and only friend to the villainess Catra.
Gary's personal life was marked by her marriage to actor Charles Howerton in 1967, with whom she had two daughters of her own. The couple also had a stepdaughter from a previous marriage. In the early 1970s, they resided in Italy, where Gary began her career in voice acting, dubbing Italian films into English.
After returning to the United States in 1974, Gary pursued a professional career as a voice actor, receiving acting lessons from veteran voice actor Daws Butler. Her early performances included voicing various female characters in the animated series "Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle" (1980),as well as Jane Porter in a single episode.
Throughout her career, Gary worked with renowned animation studios such as Filmation, Hanna-Barbera, Marvel Productions, and Disney Television Animation. She also lent her voice to several Japanese anime films, including "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" (1984). In "Ghostbusters" (1986),Gary voiced the only two major female villains in the series: the mist-controlling ghost Mysteria and the vamp-like sorceress Apparitia.
Gary's final major role was playing May Parker in several early episodes of the animated series "Spider-Man" (1994-1998),where she portrayed Spider-Man/Peter Parker's aunt and surrogate mother. Sadly, Gary passed away on October 5, 1995, at her home in North Hollywood, California, due to brain cancer, a disease she had been battling for some time. She died just a month before her 51st birthday, leaving behind a legacy of beloved characters in the world of animation.
