Biography

Linda Bassett, a renowned British actress, was born in the quaint Kentish village of Pluckley, which also served as the backdrop for the popular television series "The Darling Buds of May" in 1991.

Raised in the heart of South London's Pimlico by her mother, a dedicated typist, and her father, a police officer, Linda's early life was marked by a deep appreciation for the performing arts. As a child, she would often accompany her parents to plays in London, frequently visiting the iconic Old Vic theatre, where she would develop a lifelong passion for classical theatre.

After completing her secondary education, Linda embarked on a career at the Old Vic, initially serving as an usherette and later as a catering manager. Her professional journey took a dramatic turn when she enrolled at Leeds University to study English, only to drop out after a year and pursue a more unconventional path in the world of drama.

Linda's theatrical training, albeit informal, was gained through her involvement with a local drama group that staged productions in community-based settings, such as schools. This unique experience would later prove invaluable in shaping her craft.

It wasn't until the age of thirty-two, in 1982, that Linda made her London stage debut. Her big break arrived in 1991 when she joined the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company. Although she had already established herself as a respected stage performer, her portrayal of the character in the 1999 film adaptation of "East Is East" brought her widespread recognition and introduced her to a broader audience.

Throughout the 2000s, Linda has continued to appear in a diverse range of films and television series, solidifying her status as a familiar and accomplished actress. In the late 1980s, she returned to her roots, relocating to her birthplace in Pluckley, where she still resides.
