Biography

Letitia Wright, a talented and versatile actress, has made a lasting impact on the entertainment industry with her remarkable career spanning over a decade. Her breakout role as Summerhouse resident Chantelle in Top Boy marked the beginning of her journey, which has been filled with critically acclaimed performances, including her portrayal of Nish in Black Mirror.

Wright's most notable role to date is undoubtedly her scene-stealing turn as Shuri, the lead scientist and Princess of Wakanda, in the record-breaking Marvel film Black Panther. This iconic role not only cemented her position as one of the industry's most captivating young actresses but also played a significant part in shaping the cultural landscape of the last decade.

In 2019, Wright received widespread recognition for her work in Black Panther, including the BAFTA Rising Star Award and a SAG Award as part of the film's 'Best Ensemble'. The film's global box office success, grossing over $1.3 billion, and its Academy Award nomination for 'Best Picture' further solidified its impact on the industry.

Wright's success continued in 2020 with a starring role in Steve McQueen's anthology series Small Axe, where she portrayed British Black Panther Party leader Altheia Jones-LeCointe. Her episode, "Mangrove", was selected for the official Cannes 2020 lineup, and the series received two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Television Motion Picture. Wright's performance in Small Axe earned her a leading actress nomination at the 2021 BAFTA Television Awards.

Beyond her acting career, Wright has demonstrated a passion for creating meaningful content within the industry. In 2020, she launched her independent production company, 3.16 Productions, which partnered with BRON Studios for their first forthcoming feature, Surrounded, starring Wright, Jamie Bell, and the late Michael K. Williams. Wright also developed the powerful storyline for her episode "I Am Danielle" in the BAFTA-nominated, female-led anthology series I Am for Channel 4, in creative partnership with director Dominic Savage.

Wright's upcoming projects in 2022 include the Ireland-set drama Aisha, written and directed by Frank Berry, starring Josh O'Connor, as well as the highly anticipated sequel to the Marvel/Disney blockbuster, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With her impressive range and dedication to her craft, Letitia Wright is set to continue making waves in the entertainment industry for years to come.
