Leslie's origin story begins in the vibrant neighborhood of Spanish Harlem, also affectionately known as El Barrio and East Harlem, nestled in the heart of New York City. This is where she laid the foundation for her future success, attending the esteemed Hunter College High School, an institution that has proudly produced a roster of notable alumni, including actress Cynthia Nixon, producer/writer Adam Horowitz, and singer Angela Bofill, all of whom shared the same academic journey as Leslie.
Leslie's academic path was marked by a trifecta of collegiate pursuits, as she enrolled in Adelphi University, where she had the privilege of studying alongside the talented composer/playwright/producer Jonathan Larson. She also spent time at Temple University and Hunter College, ultimately graduating from the latter. This impressive academic feat earned her a spot in the prestigious list of Outstanding Young Women of America.
Leslie's passion for the performing arts led her to pursue further education, courtesy of a NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) acting scholarship, which enabled her to study at the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to her craft eventually earned her a scholarship from the accomplished actress Marlo Thomas, a testament to her remarkable talent.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Leslie made a significant impact on the city's theatrical scene, appearing in a plethora of productions, including the notable plays The Sunshine Boys, starring Dick Van Patten and the late Frank Gorshin, at the Falcon Theatre. Her big-screen debut came in the form of the critically acclaimed film What's Love Got To Do With It.
