Leola Mae Harmon, a dedicated and accomplished individual, experienced a significant life transition in 1972 when she and her then-husband, Dr. James Stallings, decided to relocate to Des Moines, Iowa. This pivotal move marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life, as she resumed her nursing career at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. In this new environment, she not only continued to hone her nursing skills but also took on the role of a clinical instructor, sharing her expertise with the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Years passed, and Leola's life continued to unfold in meaningful ways. In 1981, she met Harold Swihart, and the two would eventually tie the knot in 1982, embarking on a new journey together. This union would bring its own set of joys and challenges, but ultimately, it would also provide Leola with a sense of stability and companionship.
As the years went by, Leola and Harold made the decision to relocate once more, this time to Punta Gorda, Florida. The warm and sunny climate of their new home was a welcome change, and Leola was thrilled to start this new chapter in her life. However, her time in Florida was unfortunately cut short, as she contracted a virus in the spring of 1999. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Leola's condition continued to deteriorate, and she ultimately passed away on May 19th, 1999, due to multiple organ failure.
