Biography

Lenworth George Henry, professionally known as Lenny Henry, was born on August 29, 1958, in Dudley, West Midlands, England, to a family of Jamaican immigrants. This notable individual made his television debut at the tender age of 16 on the talent show "New Faces" in 1975. His early career was marked by appearances on various TV programs, including The Fosters in 1976 and the popular children's show Tiswas, which was instrumental in launching his career as a comedian.

Lenny Henry's stand-up comedy movie, Lenny Live and Unleashed, released in 1989, caught the attention of the Walt Disney Company, leading to him being offered the lead role in the American film True Identity (1991) and a contract to star in two other Disney movies for a substantial sum of approximately US$1 million. Unfortunately, the movie True Identity failed to impress, grossing less than US$5 million, resulting in the cancellation of his contract. Lenny Henry ultimately received half of what he would have earned had he fulfilled the three-film commitment.

In the United States, Lenny Henry gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Gareth Blackstock in the acclaimed BBC show Chef! (1993),marking a significant milestone in his career.
