Lech Mackiewicz, a versatile artist, graduated from the National State Academy of Theatre in Cracow, Poland in 1983 and from UTS Sydney in 1987. He has had a distinguished career in theatre and film, working in Poland, Australia, and Japan.
As a theatre director, Lech has directed numerous productions, including King Lear for Playbox in Melbourne, which toured nationally and internationally, as well as The Hour Before My Brother Dies for Jaracza Theatre in Poland and Krapp's Last Tape for Auto Da Fe Theatre Co. in Poland, Australia, and Japan.
In addition to his directing work, Lech is also an accomplished translator of stage plays. He has translated works such as The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol, The Hour Before My Brother Dies by Daniel Keene, Mr. Melancholy by Matt Cameron, and White Marriage by Stanislaw Rozewicz.
Lech has also ventured into filmmaking, writing and directing two independent feature films in Poland: Here and There and Divorce. His most recent film, Left Ear, which he co-directed and co-produced with Andrew Wholley, has received critical acclaim and has been screened at numerous festivals around the world.
As an actor, Lech has appeared in a wide range of productions, including theatre, TV, and film. Some of his notable roles include Kafka Dances, The Idiot, Pentecost, Macbeth, The Pianist, Till There Was You, Warsaw "Warszawa", 4 in 1, and Marking Time.
