Biography

Notorious for his rugged on-screen presence and tumultuous off-screen persona, this legendary Hollywood actor earned the reputation of a "tough guy" in his heyday.

As the iconic title character in the 1945 film Dillinger, he left an indelible mark on audiences, followed by a critically acclaimed performance as the brutally passionate lover of Claire Trevor in Born to Kill (1947).

Off-screen, he was infamous for his numerous, high-profile barroom brawls, which often made headlines, including a harrowing incident in 1973 where he was stabbed.

Despite his tumultuous past, he continued to thrive in the entertainment industry, projecting the same tough-as-nails persona that had become synonymous with him, as evidenced in his memorable role in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1992).
