Laurie Weltz is a renowned feature director and screenwriter, whose cinematic debut, Wrestling with Alligators, garnered critical acclaim and a Grand Jury Prize nomination at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. The film's excellence was further underscored by Filmmaker Magazine, which praised the "lovely debut" for its "excellent performances" and "strong story," adding that Weltz's multifaceted background in film production lent the film a sense of "grace, control, and confidence" that would surely transcend the festival circuit.
Wrestling with Alligators boasted an impressive cast, featuring Joely Richardson, Aleksa Palladino, Claire Bloom, Adrienne Shelly, and Sam Trammel, and was subsequently released theatrically and on various platforms, including video and television. Weltz's subsequent feature film, Scout, based on her own award-winning script, received a similar treatment, with the film starring India Ennenga, Ellen Burstyn, Danny Glover, Jane Seymour, Nikki Reed, and James Frecheville.
Currently, Weltz is in development on her third feature, The Night Swimmer, in collaboration with Evenfield Entertainment. Prior to her feature work, Weltz earned a master's degree from NYU Film School, where her thesis film, At Five and Twenty-Five, caught the attention of USA television and was subsequently picked up.
In addition to her feature work, Weltz has also worked as a freelance director and editor for television, music video, and branded content, earning two ACE award nominations for her work on HBO's Shock Video and A&E's Heroes.
