Lasco Atkins, a Hong Kong-born individual, was born in 1980. At a young age, he developed a passion for films, particularly action movies featuring notable actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
As he progressed through film school, Lasco's appreciation for classic films, including black-and-white and 1970s cinema, grew significantly. He re-watched iconic films like Blade Runner, which he initially found boring but later recognized as a visual masterpiece.
Before attending film school, Lasco created humorous skits and skateboarding videos with friends. At the Surrey Institute of Art in Farnham, he experimented with video editing, producing over-the-top content. During his time at London Film School (LFS),Lasco learned to shoot on film stock and edit using Steen-beck equipment, broadening his understanding of the filmmaking process.
Initially aspiring to become a director, Lasco left LFS with a newfound appreciation for the role of a cameraman. He began working as a focus puller and camera assistant, eventually developing a strong understanding of lighting and camera techniques. This expertise is particularly valuable for young directors of photography.
In addition to his work behind the camera, Lasco occasionally takes on directing roles and acts in bigger-budget films. He is content to be involved in any aspect of filmmaking, as long as the project is meaningful and provides a valuable experience.
In recent years, Lasco has explored his creative side by attempting to rap, appearing in two music videos under the moniker Lasco Tobasco in 2013.
