Person Biography:
Lanie was a talented and accomplished individual who left a lasting impact on the world. Born with a passion for the arts, she began her career in the film industry, making her feature directorial debut with THE SUBJECT, which won over 21 awards at various film festivals. The film starred Jason Biggs and Aunjanue Ellis, and its success marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career for Lanie.
As a producer, Lanie was responsible for a number of successful projects, including APRIL FLOWERS, which was a semifinalist for the Academy Awards Nicholl Fellowship, and ALINA, directed by legendary producer Ben Barenholtz. She also worked on the feature documentary DOG CAMP, showcasing her versatility and dedication to her craft.
In addition to her work in film, Lanie was also an accomplished theater producer. Her credits include Laura Marks' BETHANY, starring America Ferrera, which received two Lortel Award nominations, as well as Emmy-winner Ted Greenberg's ACE, which premiered at the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia and later went on to Off-Broadway. She also produced the Brooklyn premiere of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE.
Lanie was not only a talented producer, but also a dedicated advocate for social justice. She co-founded and produced Voices Inside/Out, a playwriting exchange program at a Kentucky prison, which brought together actors and writers from all walks of life to create powerful and thought-provoking performances. She also produced PEN America's Prison Justice Awards in 2020 and worked with comedy group Recent Cutbacks to produce the Audible Original, Master Lecture Series: History of the 3rd Robot War.
Throughout her career, Lanie received numerous awards and accolades, including a Time Warner Foundation Fellowship from the 2012-2014 Lab at WP Theater, NYC. Her novel ME AND THE MOON was also a finalist for The Write Stuff through MTV Books/Simon & Schuster.
Tragically, Lanie's life was cut short in a hit-and-run accident in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 25th, 2022. Her mother, Lucy, also lost her life in the accident. Despite her untimely passing, Lanie's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity of spirit.
