Kirk, a native of Hollister, California, has spent over two decades working in the entertainment industry, cultivating a diverse range of skills and experiences. His journey began as a stand-up comic in San Francisco, where he honed his craft and developed a strong foundation for his future endeavors.
Kirk's next move was to join Luis Valdez's renowned theatre company, El Teatro Campesino, where he became an actor and resident playwright. This experience not only further honed his writing and performance skills but also provided him with a sense of community and creative collaboration.
As he transitioned to Southern California in search of new opportunities, Kirk was invited to join Tim Robbins' acclaimed theatre company, The Actors' Gang. There, he continued to develop his talents, taking on roles as dramaturge, designer, and producer. This period was marked by significant growth and exploration, ultimately culminating in the creation of his breakout one-man show, 3 Stories Tall, which premiered at the HBO Aspen Comedy Festival.
Since then, Kirk has appeared in numerous feature films, including blockbuster hits like Forrest Gump, indie darlings like Lords of Dogtown, and even Michael Bay's The Island. His extensive TV credits are equally impressive, with recent highlights including a starring role in the TV pilot Zombieland for Amazon.
As a screenwriter, Kirk has enjoyed significant success, selling his first property, First, Last and Security, to Disney. He quickly followed up with another Disney project, Park It Here, and then teamed up with Greg Coolidge to sell a live-action series called The Exchange to Cartoon Network. Most recently, Kirk sold a feature film to Lionsgate titled Take My Wife, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Tyler Perry.
