Kevin is a renowned filmmaker of Indigenous heritage and African descent, celebrated for his critically acclaimed documentary "Freestyle The Art of Rhyme". This groundbreaking film has been showcased at numerous international film festivals, garnering several prestigious awards, including the HBO Documentary Award and the Kodak Maverick Award.
Kevin's extensive body of work has been released theatrically worldwide and commercially broadcast on prominent networks such as MTV Networks/Vh1, B-Sky-B, SBS, and Palm Pictures. His films have also been distributed theatrically by Universal, EMI, Sony, and Agnes B, as well as on home video by Netflix.
A multi-talented individual, Kevin has a strong background in the performing arts. He studied acting and dance at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, under the guidance of renowned instructors such as Milton Katselas and his father, a professional dancer and actor. Kevin also honed his craft at The Neighbourhood Playhouse, where he was a student of the legendary Sandy Meisner, and was a dancer in the original Ziegfeld Folies in New York City.
Kevin's filmmaking career began at the Center for Enriched, where he shot one of his first films with actor and friend David Arquette and fellow Unity Committee crew member Lucas "Cut Chemist" McFadden of Interscope music recording artists Jurassic-5 and the Grammy-nominated group Ozomatli. He was nominated for a Student Academy Award for his work.
As a DJ-musician, Kevin has performed alongside notable artists such as Mos Def, Wu-Tang Clan, Young MC, DJ Shadow, Macey Grey, The Black Eyed Peas, and Aloe Blacc.
Kevin's formal education includes attendance at the University of Southern California (USC) Film School, where he was taught directing by Jay Roach, DGA (Austin Powers),screenwriting by Robert Mckee and Oscar Williams (WGA),and sound by Tom Holman (inventor of THX) of Lucasfilm.
He further mentored and apprenticed under directors D.A. Pennebaker and John Singleton (DGA) on the feature film "Higher Learning" for Columbia Pictures. Kevin directed and produced a documentary on Macy Gray for Columbia Records, and followed this with the film "7-Days In Paris", which chronicled Ben Harper and his band The Innocent Criminals' recording of their final album for Virgin Records "Lifeline" at the all-analog Gang Studio in Paris, France.
In addition to his work as a director, Kevin has also served as Director of Photography on the documentary film "Soundz of Spirit", featuring Common, and was a Producer on the feature film "Half Widow", shot in Kashmir.
