Kevin Birnbaum was born in 1956 in Brooklyn, New York, to renowned lyricist/singer Laura Manning and band leader Irwin Bernard Birnbaum. Despite being raised in New Jersey, he graduated high school in 1974 from North Miami Beach, Florida, and later attended college at New Jersey University, majoring in Communications and English.
While in the New York City area, Kevin's graphic skills led to commissioned works for the NYC Ballet Company. He began writing his first screenplays and teleplays in 1974 and learned the now-defunct craft of paste-up, specking type, and print pre-production, allowing him to work at various periodical firms in Florida and California.
In 1982, Kevin married Tami Abrams in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to Glendale, Arizona, in 1989. He wrote, directed, and co-produced his first feature film, the cult supernatural western "Justice Be Damned," in 1993. The film was shot in three weekends at the base of the Superstition Mountains in Arizona.
In 1999, Kevin became part-owner of a bed and breakfast resort in Lakeside, Arizona, and started a local TV news show called "The White Mountain News." He implemented the commercial leased access provisions of the 1996 Telecommunications Act and produced a half-hour and later hourly weekly news show, which ran until 2006.
The show won the "Business of the Year Award" from the Pinetop-Lakeside Chamber of Commerce in 2002 and Kevin won the first "Arts Mentor of the Year Award" from the Arts Alliance of the White Mountains. The show was broadcast into 20,000 homes on Cable One based in Show Low, Arizona.
In 2002, Kevin published "The Maverick Newspaper" as a weekly and later as a bi-weekly publication until its current incarnation as a full-color monthly magazine. He covered regular news stories and public events as well as writing investigative journalism pieces on the White Mountain region. "The Maverick" became an Associated Press affiliate and worked in tandem with the TV news show.
In 2005, Kevin wrote, directed, and edited his second feature film, the politically hard-hitting "Vegas Date," which was shot on the streets of Las Vegas for four days and nights.
Kevin moved to Las Vegas in 2010 for a brief time, where he started a multimedia production company called "The Media Maven," and later moved to Arlington, Texas, in 2013 to marry his long-time fiancée, Glenna Stanfield.
He formed his Giati Productions LLC production company and produced the political science fiction classic, "Starwatch," featuring "El Mariachi" star Carlos Gallardo and European star Silvia Suvadova. Kevin has also published a spy thriller called "White Horse" and has had varied screenplay options and always something in development.
Throughout his career, Kevin has demonstrated expertise in text marketing, web design, and 3D animation.
