Biography

Kenneth Gyang is a renowned Nigerian filmmaker who has gained international recognition as a prominent figure in the younger generation of savvy Nigerian filmmakers. His works have been showcased at various prestigious film festivals, including the New York African Film Festival, the Pan African Film Festival, Carthage Film Festival, Cascade Festival of African Films, and the Africa International Film Festival.

Receiving a grant from the Hubert Bals Fund, Kenneth produced the postmodernist low-budget dark comedy Confusion Na Wa, which went on to win the Jury Prize at the Pan African Festival in LA and the Best Film award at the African Movie Academy Awards. His second feature, The Lost Cafe, won the Golden Palm Award for Narrative Feature at the Mexico International Film Festival and the Audience Prize at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Nigeria.

Apart from making independent cinema, Kenneth has also worked in the mainstream, directing some of the most successful Netflix Originals from Nigeria. His third feature, Oloture, premiered at Carthage Film Festival before becoming Nigeria's first breakout film on Netflix, followed by the more successful series Blood Sisters and recently Far From Home. His latest features, THIS IS LAGOS and Mojisola, were Official Selections at the 2023 Africa International Film Festival and the 2024 Pan African Film Festival, respectively. Both features were produced with Nigerian independent company Cinema Kpatakpata, a Film Collective he co-founded.

Kenneth has collaborated with the BBC and was an AFS Fellow at University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. He has been selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus, Durban FilmMart, and Rotterdam Film Lab. His current project, El Dorado Road, has undergone development at Ouaga Film Lab and EAVE Producers Workshop.

As an Institute of International Education's GTLF grant winner, Kenneth Gyang's remarkable achievements in the film industry have earned him widespread recognition and acclaim.
