Kay Cole is an American actress, director, and choreographer with a long-standing career in the entertainment industry. She is best known for originating roles in several iconic Broadway shows, including A Chorus Line and Les Miserables.
Growing up on the road, Kay took dance classes from renowned teachers in every city she traveled to. At the age of six, a director spotted her in a ballet class and asked her to audition for his show Me, Candido!. She landed the role and went on to book numerous parts throughout her childhood.
Kay has performed in numerous award-winning Broadway shows, including Bye Bye Birdie, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band On the Road, and Jesus Christ Superstar. She originated roles in Hair, The Roar of the Greasepaint - the Smell of the Crowd, and Crissy in the Los Angeles production of Hair.
In addition to her Broadway credits, Kay has appeared in numerous Off-Broadway productions, including Rainbow, National Lampoon: Lemmings, and Best Foot Forward. She has also starred in One Man Band and Road to Hollywood.
Kay's Los Angeles theatre credits include Zen Boogie, Man Who Came to Dinner, I'm Getting My Act Together And Taking It On the Road, and Havana Music Hall the Musical.
On-screen, Kay has appeared in dozens of film and television productions, including The Carol Burnett Show, Grace and Frankie, The Phil Donahue Show, It Takes a Thief, and Switched at Birth.
In addition to her acting career, Kay is also an experienced director and choreographer. She has directed the world premiere of Desperate Writers, as well as its Off-Broadway run at Union Square Theatre. Other directing credits include The Dining Room, I Only Have Eyes For You - the Life and Lyrics of Al Dubin, and In a Booth at Chasens.
Kay has also choreographed three iterations of the musical Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, starring Uta Hagen and David Hyde Pierce. She released her debut solo album Souvenir in 2020, produced by Kritzerland Records.
Kay Cole is currently based in Los Angeles and continues to be active in the entertainment industry.
