Biography

Katja Benrath's passion for theatre was fostered during her formative years, ultimately guiding her towards a career in the performing arts. In her early professional life, she embarked on a journey as a theatre tailor, honing her skills while working alongside the renowned Pina Bausch's dance company.

As her artistic pursuits continued to evolve, Katja went on to complete her studies in both Singing and Acting at a prestigious institution in Vienna, Austria. It was during this time that she discovered her affinity for filmmaking, a creative outlet that would soon become an integral part of her professional endeavors.

Katja's foray into the world of filmmaking began with the creation of several successful short films, including "Babydoll", "No one pukes in Heaven", and "Tilda", which have garnered international recognition and acclaim through their screenings at numerous festivals.

As she furthered her education at Hamburg Media School, Katja directed two notable projects, "Where have you been" and "Secrecies", which showcased her growing expertise behind the camera.

Katja's master's thesis, "Watu Wote", marked a significant milestone in her career, as it was her first film based on a true story, bringing her unique perspective and artistic vision to the big screen.
