Kate Hurman is a multifaceted Canadian artist with over two and a half decades of professional experience in the realm of theatre creation. Her artistic journey began when she enrolled at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada, in 1979, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and English in 1982. She then furthered her education by completing the Intensive Acting program at the National Theatre School of Canada in 1985.
Throughout her illustrious career, Kate has been affiliated with various esteemed institutions. From 1999 to 2008, she served as an artistic associate at the National Arts Center, and from 2009 to 2011, she was the chair of the Theatre Advisory Committee at the Ottawa Arts Court Foundation. Her personal life has also been marked by significant milestones, including the birth of her first daughter in the fall of 2001, and she currently resides near the capital city of Ottawa.
Kate's acting career has been a long and distinguished one, spanning over 26 years. She began her tenure at the Great Canadian Theatre Company in 1987 and continued to work with the company until 2013, during which time she also directed two of their productions. In addition to her work with the GCTC, Kate has also had the privilege of performing at the Stratford Festival Theatre in 2005, and more recently, she starred in My Brilliant Divorce by Geraldine Aron in May 2014.
Beyond her work on stage, Kate has also had a successful career in voiceover work, lending her talents to various commercials and corporate productions. Her teaching career has been just as extensive, with stints as a professor of theatre at Algonquin College from 2001 to 2011, St. Lawrence College in Brockville from 2008 to 2014, and the University of Ottawa from 2009 to 2011. Since 2009, Kate has also been a voice coach for individuals and corporations. Throughout her life, Kate has called various cities home, including Ottawa, Montréal, Toronto, Edmonton, and Australia.
