Biography

Kaaren Verne, born Ingeborg Catherine Marie Rose Klinkerfuss in 1918 in Berlin, Germany, was a talented actress who began her career on the stage and later transitioned to film. She fled her homeland in 1938 with her first husband, Arthur Young, and eventually settled in England, where she began modeling and eventually signed with 20th Century-Fox for films.

Kaaren's early film career was marked by a series of strong lead and second lead roles in the early 1940s, during which time she worked with various studios, including MGM and Warner Bros. She initially intended to "Americanize" her stage name to Catherine Young, but her vehement anti-Nazi sentiments made her more identifiable to audiences, and she eventually settled on the name Kaaren Verne.

Throughout her career, Kaaren appeared in a range of films, including dramas, mysteries, and propaganda films. She had a number of notable roles, including a touching scene with Robert Cummings in the classic soaper Kings Row and a romantic interest opposite Humphrey Bogart in All Through the Night. She also had a brief but tumultuous marriage to Peter Lorre, with whom she appeared in several films.

After her divorce from Lorre, Kaaren's career began to slow down, and she found herself taking on smaller and less prominent roles. She eventually moved into television work, but her appearances were sporadic and minor. She died suddenly in her Hollywood home in 1967 at the age of 49, with some sources claiming she had committed suicide and others attributing her death to a heart ailment.
