Biography

Jyllian Gunther is a renowned Emmy-award winning multimedia storyteller, proficient in crafting captivating narratives for film, television, radio, and digital platforms.

As the Director, Writer, Co-Executive Producer, and VoiceOver for the new HBO Max documentary series, Swiping America, Gunther has successfully brought her unique storytelling skills to the forefront.

Currently, her third documentary, Sunset & The Mockingbird, is in post-production, produced by Essie Chambers and Kali Holloway.

Additionally, her feature script, Pleased To Meet Me, is being produced by Wren Arthur and Steve Buscemi's Olive Productions.

Gunther's extensive experience in the industry includes her work as Co-Executive Producer, Director, and Writer on multiple episodes of the NBC Emmy award-winning series, Who Do You Think You Are, featuring notable celebrities such as Nick Offerman, Billy Porter, and Allison Janney.

She is the recipient of a national Emmy award for writing and directing a series of public service announcements for PBS.

Gunther has also won a Christopher Award for her work as Executive Producer and Director of the History/A&E documentary, Black Patriots:Heroes of the American Revolution, featuring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In her previous roles, she served as Producer for ABC's The Last Defense, a seven-part documentary series executive produced by Viola Davis.

Gunther was also Director, Producer, and Writer for six short films for the JigSaw, Amazon, and The New Yorker magazine series, The New Yorker Presents.

Her second award-winning feature documentary, The New Public, aired on PBS, is widely available online, and is distributed by Kino Lorber with a curriculum created by Teachers College at Columbia University.

It has been added to the collections of libraries at hundreds of educational institutions nationwide.

Her first critically-acclaimed documentary, Pull Out, was an official selection of numerous national and international film festivals. It is also available online.

Gunther began her television career as a staff writer for Nickelodeon and later worked as a freelance Writer/Producer of countless promos and producer/director on various documentary series for Discovery Channel, TLC, MTV, AMC, IFC, and WEtv, and other networks.

She is currently Co-Executive Producer on a new untitled documentary series for HBO.

Her extensive portfolio also includes her work as Reporter/Co-Producer for NPR's acclaimed, This American Life program, featuring episodes such as "Kid Politics" & "Stuck In the Middle."
