Biography

Justine Nagan is a highly accomplished documentary producer and creative media executive, boasting an impressive array of accolades including Emmy and Peabody Awards. Currently, she serves as the Head of Production at Actual Films, overseeing their growing slate of projects. Her recent credits include serving as Executive Producer on In Waves and War and producing The White House Effect, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2024. Notably, she also Executive Produced Make A Splash for ESPN, as well as the company's inaugural foray into episodic production, Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever, a Marvel on Disney+ original series.

Prior to joining Actual Films, Justine held the esteemed position of Executive Director at American Documentary, where she played a pivotal role in the development and execution of its signature series, POV (PBS) and America Reframed (World Channel). During her tenure, she oversaw the launch of POV Shorts, established several Artist Funds, and guided the organization to achieve numerous accolades, including several Oscar nominations, Emmy, Peabody, and DuPont awards. Some of the notable films showcased during her time at American Documentary include Through the Night, The Mole Agent, Softie, Minding the Gap, Last Men in Aleppo, Dark Money, Hooligan Sparrow, and 93 Queen.

Before her time at American Documentary, Justine served as the Executive Director at Kartemquin Films, where she also functioned as an Executive Producer on several notable films, including Life Itself, The Interrupters, and The Trials of Muhammad Ali. Additionally, she directed Typeface, a critically acclaimed documentary exploring American typography. Justine is an active member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the Producers Guild of America, and the Television Academy.
