Justin Lin is a Taiwanese-American film director who has achieved immense success in the film industry, with his movies accumulating a staggering global box office total of $2 billion. He is widely recognized for his remarkable work on a variety of notable films, including Better Luck Tomorrow, The Fast and the Furious 3-6, and Star Trek Beyond. Furthermore, Lin has also made a significant impact in the television industry, having contributed to popular shows such as Community and the second season of True Detective.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lin spent his formative years growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Cypress, California, which is located in Orange County. He attended Cypress High School and subsequently enrolled at the University of California, San Diego, where he spent two years before transferring to UCLA. At UCLA, Lin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film & Television and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing & Production from the prestigious UCLA film school.
